Access To
- The Spin facility is located on the first floor towards the rear of the PEARL building.
There is no internal access to the Spin facility from the PEARL main entrance.
External access for the Spin facility is located at the rear of the building and provides stepped only access once inside the building. - View information on PEARL (opens new tab) .
- The most accessible route has steps and manual doors.
- The Spin facility is accessed from an external entrance to the rear right of the PEARL building.
The external access door is single width, with a locked extension leaf.
The manual, heavy door opens towards you (pull).
The open door width is 69cm.
There is a lip 2cm or below at the threshold of the doorway.
This entrance is approximately 270m from the front of the building. - There is no signage on or near the entrance.
- There is stepped access into the Spin facility.
- There are 20 steps with handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The steps are clearly marked.
- The height of the steps is not between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 20cm.
- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
- There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 96cm.
- The door has a high visual contrast.
- There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 114cm.
- There is a second single manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 94cm.
- The second door has a high visual contrast.
Teaching (Spin Facility)
- This is a lab.
- There is step-free level access throughout the room.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
- The flooring is shiny.
- Floor coverings are even with no trip hazards.
- The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
- Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
- Lighting levels are adjustable.
- There are no designated spaces for wheelchair users.
- There is space for an assistance dog to rest.
- Seating available in the room includes: chairs without armrests.
- Furniture available in the room includes: desks.
- The surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
- The clear underside space of the surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.
- This room has a projector screen.
