Access To

  • The University Counselling Service is located on the third floor of the Student Services Centre, to the left and left again as you exit the new wing lifts.

  • The most accessible route has step-free level access, a lift, doors permanently held open, shiny flooring and patterned flooring.
  • There is written text and numbered signage on or near the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access via lift to enter the University Counselling Service.
  • There is a single automatic door which opens away from you.
  • The push pad for the automatic doors is at a height of 92cm.
  • The width of the opening is 85cm.
  • The door has a medium visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 94cm.
  • For non-key card holders, there is an intercom to enter the University Counselling Service at a height of 107cm. A member of staff will then let you in.
    For key card holders, there is a key card reader at a height of 103cm to unlock the door.

Reception

  • The reception is located straight ahead as you enter through the service entrance.
  • The distance from the entrance is 4m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 107cm.
  • There is not a lowered section at the desk.
  • There is a clearly signed fixed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested, however it was not working at the time of the survey.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
  • Seating available in this area includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests and benches.
  • Furniture available in this area includes: coffee tables.
