Overview

Getting Inside

  • There are slight slopes and uneven surfaces on approach to the entrances.
  • There are 4 entrances into the Mott Building with the Blue Hall, Brown Hall and Yellow Hall having level access. All 3 provide level access into the building on the ground floor via manual double doors.
    There is a level link with manual doors on the first floor of the building connecting to the Bragg Building.
  • The entrances are not signed.
  • The Yellow Hall entrance leads into the Yellow Hall Area of the ground floor of the Mott Building.
  • The West entrance has manual double single doors and has a slight slope in front of the entrance.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building.
  • Floor surfaces in the majority of circulation routes are hard and smooth, with shiny surfaces. There are a few areas which are instead carpeted.
  • There is seating area situated in the Brown Hall area of the ground floor.
  • There are maps located around the building.
  • There are no doorways located along the corridors of the Mott Building.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • The nearest adapted toilet is located within the Bragg Building.
  • The female toilet facilities are located towards the rear left of the building on the first floor.
  • The male toilet facilities are located towards the front left of the building on the first floor.

Entrance (Yellow Hall Entrance)

  • This entrance is located towards the front left of the building.
  • The entrance area is not clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via a very easy slope at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
  • The doors open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 85cm.
  • The doors have a high visual contrast.
  • There is a second set of double manual doors, however one door is locked.
  • The second set of doors open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 114cm.
  • The second set of doors have a high visual contrast.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located in Brown Hall at the end of the corridor directly in front of you entering the building via the Yellow Hall entrance.
  • The distance from the Yellow Hall entrance is 50m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The ground, first and second floors are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 180cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 245cm (width) x 132cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • The majority of the internal controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a visual floor indicator.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.

Stairs

  • The stairs surveyed are located to your right on entrance via the Yellow Hall entrance.
  • The ground, first and second floors can be accessed by these stairs.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are not easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is not between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 19cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were low at the time of the survey.
