Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free and level.
  • West Hub has two entrances. Both entrances provide step-free level access to level G.
    The main entrance has double automatic doors.
    The rear entrance has an automatic revolving door.
  • The entrances are not signed.
  • The main entrance provides step-free level access to the level G main foyer.
  • The rear entrance is located at the rear of the building and provides step-free level access to the building via a revolving door.
  • West Hub can also be accessed internally via each of the eating establishments it contains.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
  • Floor map plans are available on level G and level 2 of the building.
  • There are not manual doors in any circulation routes in the building.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 6 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located off the main corridors on each floor.
    • The transfer space varies between left and right in the toilets with adaptations.
    • The male and female toilet facilities are located on all floors off the main corridors.
  • Changing Places and Changing Facilities View
    • The Changing Places toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, ahead and to the left as you enter via the main entrance.
    • Parent and baby changing facilities are located within some of the toilets with adaptations on all floors.

Entrance (Main Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 91cm.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 158cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located on the left side of the building, off the main corridor.
  • The distance from the main entrance is 10m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • Floors G, 1 and 2 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a medium visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 85cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 92cm (width) x 206cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have a medium visual contrast and tactile markings.
  • Some of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a mirror to aid reversing, a hearing assistance alarm system, a visual floor indicator and an audible announcer.

  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.
  • The depth of the steps is between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the size of the space.

Counter (Electronic Legal Deposit)

  • The counter is located on floor 1, on the right side of the building, off the main corridor.
  • The distance from lift is 20m.
  • There is step-free level access via lift to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 76cm.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
  • The Electronic Legal Deposit is a public service that anyone can use.

Counter (Self Service and Returns)

  • The counter is located on floor 2, to the left as you exit the lifts, off the main corridor.
  • The distance from the lift is 5m.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 87cm.
  • The height of the touchscreen display ranges from 101cm to 125cm from the floor.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.

Reception (Information Desk)

  • The reception is located on floor 1, on the right side of the building off the main corridor.
  • The distance from the lift is 28m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 71cm.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
  • Some flooring is shiny.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.
  • There is some room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre in the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is not space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
  • Seating available in this area includes: stools.
  • Furniture available in this area includes: desks.

Library

  • There is step-free level access throughout the library.
  • Access throughout the library may include manual doors and doors permanently held open.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
  • The walls and floor visual contrast varies between low and high.
  • Seating available in the library includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests, armchairs, riser recliner chairs, sofas, benches and high stools.
  • Furniture available in the library includes: tables, long tables and height adjustable desks.
  • Some surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
  • The clear underside space of some surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.

Toilet with Adaptations (First Floor - Left Hand Transfer)
