Getting Here

  • By Road View
    • The University is situated just off the A38 Queensway to the west of Derby City. There are clearly signed routes to the M1 north and south. From either direction travel to the A38 Markeaton Island and take the exit signposted University of Derby. After 200m bear left onto the slip road and remain in the left lane. Turn left into Kedleston Road and take the right hand lane, signposted University. The main entrance is clearly signposted 100m on the right. Just inside the University grounds is the security barrier. Permit holders use the left lane, visitors use the right lane.
    • There are designated car parks for students, visitors and staff. There is also an extensive park and ride facility at Markeaton Park served by the free Unibus service direct to the main entrance.
  • By Bus View
    • Unibus serves the Kedleston Road campus and all University owned Halls of Residence. The services also serve the railway station and the city centre. The Unibus is free for staff and students with a valid ID card and the public can also use the service at a fare of £2.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest main railway station is Derby which has local services and direct services to London, and the CrossCountry network serving England, Wales and Scotland. From Derby Station the Unibus is a direct route to the Kedleston Road site.

Parking

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

Entry and Exit Barriers

  • Immediately beyond the reception desk are automated barriers. There is a gate to the left for mobility impaired students and visitors which may be opened by swiping an ID card (110cm high reader) or by the reception staff. The gate is 120cm wide. The standard gates are 80cm wide and are operated by the ID card. Adjacent to the entry barriers are the exit barriers which have the same dimensions.
  • All entry to the University buildings is through these controlled barriers.

Getting Around

  • Access View
    • There is step free access throughout the building.
    • There is a slight ramp, with no handrails, for access to Level 1.
    • The ramp or slope does bypass the step(s).
    • Photographs 2, 3 and 4 show the ramp between Level 1 and 2 of the Atrium. The ramp is continuous from Level 1, through Level 2 to Level 3 with level landings and handrails both sides.
    • There is/are 8 clearly marked step(s), with handrails on both sides, for access to the landing between Level 1 and level 2.
    • The step(s) is/are medium (11cm - 17cm).
    • There is a slight ramp, with handrails on both sides, for access to Level 2.
    • The ramp or slope does bypass the step(s).
    • There is an enclosed platform lift which overcomes the steps and ramp/slope.
    • There is a lift in the Student Union Quarter which bypasses the steps and ramps. The full details for the lift are shown below.

    • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1 and 2.

    • The steps are medium (11cm - 17cm).
    • The steps do have handrails.
    • The steps have a handrail on both sides.

    • The Atrium features a ramp which serves levels 1 and 2. The ramp is in three sections each of which has a slight gradient and has handrails on both sides. The stairs meet a central landing between levels 1 and 2.

Student Services

  • The Student Service is situated on The Atrium Level 1 between the Subway outlet and the Library.
  • The Service is open between 08:30 and 17:00 Monday to Thursday (with additional help available in the Wellbeing Centre until 19:00 if needed) and 08:30 to 16:30 on Friday.
