Summary

West Gate to The Mews

  • Enter the Old Royal Naval College via the pedestrian access gate on the left hand side of the vehicular access gate, at the West Gate Entrance. The pedestrian access gate is permanently held open to a width of 158cm. There is step-free level access here, and the area has a surface comprised of stone paving slabs.
  • Continue straight ahead along the pavement running along the left hand side of College Way, to reach a crossing point over the service road to access The Mews. There are dropped kerbs with a steep gradient and tactile paving on both sides of the roadway, which has a tarmac surface.
  • If you wish to access the Dreadnought Building or Stephen Lawrence Building, turn right and cross College Way. There are access gates from the pavement on the right hand side of College Way into the area of the campus containing these buildings, which have dropped kerbs leading up from the roadway in front of them.
  • Otherwise, cross the service road into The Mews and continue straight ahead.

The Mews to Queen Anne Court

  • Continue along the pavement on the left hand side of College Way, which is level with a surface of stone paving slabs. There is a further crossing point over a wide path along a tree-lined avenue, which has dropped kerbs with steep gradients and tactile paving on both sides, with the path having a tarmac surface. Go straight ahead, following College Way across the lawned area, and then alongside the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. There is a crossing point over the entrance to Trinity Laban which has flush kerbs with no tactile paving - although there is no vehicular traffic here.
  • The footway continues until the end of the building, where the space widens out with a large lawned area on your left and steps leading up from the opposite side of College Way on the right. Once again, continue straight ahead. There is a slight dropped kerb with tactile paving, followed by a section of the route beside the lawn where the footway is flush to College Way. This section has a level tarmac surface, with a strip of cobbles to your right (which can be avoided).
  • As you approach Queen Anne Court on the far side of the lawned area, there is a further dropped kerb with a slight gradient and tactile paving, leading up to a level stone-slabbed footway alongside Queen Anne Court.

Queen Anne Court to East Gate Car Park

  • Cross the entrance passageway into Queen Anne Court. This has flush kerbs with no tactile paving on both sides; however there is no vehicular traffic at this crossing point. There is a small lip on the kerbstones on the far side of this crossing point.
  • Continue along the pavement until you reach the East Gate Car Park at the end of Queen Anne Court. There is a university shuttle bus stop here, which can cause the footway to become crowded at certain times of the day. Use the flush kerb with tactile paving to enter the roadway; then turn right and cross the roadway to reach the corner of Queen Mary Court. The roadway has a tarmac surface and steep gradient due to a steeply shelving camber. There is a further flush kerb with tactile paving on the far side of the roadway, which is next to a designated disabled pick-up/drop-off point.
  • Turn left to follow the footway between the building and car park.

East Gate Car Park to Queen Mary Court Accessible Entrance

  • Go straight ahead up the path alongside the building on your right, adjacent to the car park. The path has a slight uphill slope due to the natural topography, and a surface comprised of stone paving slabs.
  • As you approach the perimeter railing along Romney Road, at the end of the building, turn right to continue along the path, with Queen Mary Court still on your left. The surface remains the same, but the gradient is now level.
  • You will soon approach a door with a very large porch light above it, opposite a ground-mounted signage column. This is the accessible entrance to Queen Mary Court, where the route ends.
