Summary

Front of Campus Car Park (Car Park 1) – Information for Vehicle Users

  • The car park at the front of campus consists of brick paving and asphalt. The car park has various little sections where you can park.
  • Where you park/enter within Car Park 1 will define the start of your route. The pavements within the car park join and start to lead towards the campus. There are no steep slopes apart from the speed bumps in the road and at dropped kerbs.
  • From some spaces the road will have to be used to gain access to the pavement as there are only a few dropped kerbs by crossings. The kerbs are approximately 14cm high.

Route Guide: Front of campus Car Park to Catherine Parr Court

  • As you enter the campus, follow the pavement on the left-hand side for approximately 20m and turn left along the path. This is opposite the security in the centre of the road.
  • There is a payment machine and bin on your left but the space on the brick pavement is still sufficiently wide (over 150cm).
  • Continue along this pavement for approximately 33m until there is a dropped kerb with steep slope crossing the brick paved road.
  • Cross here and turn right where there are immediately more dropped kerbs with steep slopes crossing the main access road. There is a pedestrian crossing here to the other brick pavement.
  • Once you have crossed you will need to turn left and promptly right along the pavement. There is a post and rail fence on your right in front of the Catherine Parr Court accommodation building and more parking spaces on your left.

Catherine Parr Court to Grey Building

  • Within 20m of turning right you will need to turn left by the campus signage due to the two very tall steps are straight ahead.
  • The pavement is still even but a bin and payment machine narrow it to 154cm. Within 25m the pavement meets the access road and turns right.
  • The pavement has a slight slope towards the road here before two further dropped kerbs with steep gradients on either side of the road accessing 18 more parking spaces on your right. There are three blue badge bays in this small section, with more standard bays on your right.
  • Follow the pavement for approximately 34m, past Parr and Cleves Court on your right as it curves towards the Grey Building. The pavement is uneven, has dropped kerbs to the road on your left and is going downhill. Therefore, it has various steep and slight slopes.
  • You will pass a zebra crossing across the road before the pavement merges with another path. The bollard (bell) and the bin by the pedestrian crossing ahead narrow the path but not to under 120cm. The Grey Building is on your right.

Grey Building to the Library and Wren Buildings

  • There is a slight slope off the pavement onto the zebra crossing on the asphalt road. Head across the road which is uneven in places and up a slight slope onto the asphalt pavement on the other side.
  • Follow this pavement for approximately 30m, past a stepped entrance to the Grey Building to a zebra crossing in between the Grey and the Bronte Building.
  • The crossing is raised to the level of the pavement so there is no level change. Head across the zebra crossing and straight ahead along the asphalt path which has a very slight gradient.
  • Head past the Library on your right and the Wren Building on your left.

Library and Wren Buildings to Mary Seacole

  • As you pass the library there is a slight slope and tactile paving at the bottom of the steps for the library. There is brick paving on your left with a few saplings growing from square plots with fine gravel.
  • Continue straight ahead towards the directional signage. The paving here changes to block paving which has a slight slope. The David Fussey Building is on your left and the Fry Building is on your right.
  • The path opens up here in between the buildings with various benches and tables and the Mary Seacole Building is in front of you.
  • Continue straight ahead past the bench and through the gap between the David Fussey and Mary Seacole Buildings. The path here has a slight slope.

Mary Seacole to Seymour Court Entrance

  • Once in between the buildings, there is Seymour Court accommodation in front of you, with signage indicating that Sparrows Farm is to the left. Turn left and there will be a red gate ahead of you.
  • Before you reach the gate, head onto the pavement which crosses through the grass and round the side of Seymour Court. The first 4m of the pavement consists of asphalt and has a steep slope before it becomes more level and changes to brick paving.
  • Follow the pavement, which is 150cm wide, as it bends round the corner with Seymour Court on your right. The pavement will then turn left, with the entrance to Seymour Court to the right.

Seymour Court Entrance to Car Park 3 Path

  • As it turns left there are two large manholes and some uneven paving which could be trip hazards. After about 18m, the pavement turns right before it meets the road. Take the turn and follow it for approximately 65m past two benches and a bin on your right. The pavement is 120cm wide and has a very slight slope towards the car park. There will be the Campus Car Park (3) on your left, with Seymour Court still on the right.
  • You will head past a single blue badge bay and a payment machine until two further disabled bays are reached on the left-hand side. The pavement has dropped kerbs with slight slopes to these spaces.
  • From these spaces, the access roads for the car park needs to be crossed to reach the next section of the path 31m away. Be careful of vehicles.
  • Head across the spaces made of brick paving and asphalt road which have slight slopes. There is a slight lip and slope on the road where the surface changes from asphalt to brick paving by an intersection and no entry signs for vehicles.

Car Park 3 Path to Key Card Gate

  • The path is ahead of you off the right hand-side of the road, with signage towards Sparrows Farm. The path is made of asphalt and has a central hole for a post which at time of survey was not in place and so could be a hazard.
  • Head straight forward and follow the path between the green changing room block on your left and the sports field pitches A, B, C, D on your right. The asphalt path is uneven in places and has a very steep slope to the sports field which can be avoided on route to Sparrows Farm.
  • Follow the path past the changing rooms on your left, which has a lamppost in the centre. This combined with the steps into the changing room narrows the path to the left of it to 165cm.
  • Approximately 45m from the start of the path leading from the car park, it will narrow to 155cm and turn to the right and follow the hedge line. The sports fields are on the right as you head along the path with a slight slope which has various manholes which could be trip hazards.
  • It is approximately 95m until the path turns slightly and reaches a locked palisade fence/gate. A university key card is needed to pass through this gate.
  • The key card reader is 112cm high and the key code controls are 99cm-104cm high. The gate is single, very heavy and opens towards you with a width of 121cm.

Key Card Gate to Sport Sciences Entrance - Sparrows Farm

  • Once through the gate, the asphalt path which is 152cm wide is initially very uneven due to tree roots. It bends to the right, crosses a different path towards further signage for Sparrows Farm.
  • There is another manhole which could be a trip hazard before a gate which is held open and has a width of 155cm.
  • The path has a steep slope towards the palisade fence and field on the left. Continue along the straight path for 105m which is uneven in places with further manholes which could be trip hazards.
  • The path then turns to the left and continues for a further 47m before it becomes uneven and meanders slightly as it crosses a ditch. There are slight slopes as the path goes round the left-hand side of Sparrows Farm. The path will then straighten as it follows the building, with the Sport Sciences entrance door to your right.

Sport Sciences Entrance Door to the Main Entrance - Sparrows Farm

  • Pass the Sport Sciences entrance on your right, with signage ahead for Sparrows Farm. The path splits in two: the one on the left towards the parking lot and the right leading towards the front of the building. The path is slightly sloped as it goes past benches on the right.
  • As you reach the corner of the building the path is narrowed to approximately a metre. Turn right round the corner, past the payment machine for the car park. Head along the face of the building.
  • There are bollards to your left leading onto the car park which are 75cm and are 345cm apart. Pass these and the entrance to Sparrows Farm is on your right. This area is even and the surface changes to concrete at the entrance under the canopy.
  • This is the main entrance to Sparrows Farm.
