Introduction

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

Accessible Car Park to Cloistered Walkway via Market Square

  • Upon exiting the car park turn left and head towards Market Square.
  • There is a steep slope leading into Market Square.
  • Continue straight ahead through Market Square, bearing slightly right at the supermarket, and you will see the entrance to the cloistered walkway ahead.
  • There is a slight slope running downwards from left to right in the Square.

Cloistered Walkway to Vanbrugh College Nucleus

  • On reaching the walkway, turn right and continue for approximately 105m until reaching the Vanbrugh College Nucleus.
  • There is a steep slope heading downwards as you turn right from the Market Square (photograph 1).
  • The is a slight slope downwards as you continue.

Vanbrugh College Nucleus to Derwent Block L

  • Upon reaching the Vanbrugh College Nucleus, turn left and after approximately 200m enter Derwent College Block L.
  • The surface of the path is block paving and there is a slight slope leading downwards in some areas.
  • The cloistered walkway may be busy at certain points during the day.
  • Ducks and other waterfowl are liable to fly onto this lakeside path.

Outside Access (West Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the west side of the building.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 122cm (4ft).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is steep.
    • The ramp is permanent.
    • There is a level landing at the top of the ramp.
    • The ramp does have handrails.
    • The handrails are on both sides.

Derwent L Block West East to Derwent College J Block East Entrance

  • Ahead as you enter L Block is a steep ramp with handrails on both sides (photograph 1).
  • At the top of the ramp is a set of double automatic doors with a width of 112cm (photograph 2) that open out onto a level block paved walkway that makes up part of the main ground floor corridor of the building (photograph 3).
  • At the far end of the walkway is another set of double automatic doors with a width of 112cm (photograph 4).
  • Upon entering the building continue along the corridor (photograph 5) until you reach the reach the J Block East Entrance.
  • There is a steep slope on approach with handrails either side (photograph 6).

Outside Access (East Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the east end of the building.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 105cm (3ft 5in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located to the left as you face the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
  • Comments View
    • There is an alternative steep slope directly in front of the entrance. This is shown in photograph 4.

Lift

  • There is a lift for public use.
  • The lift is located to the rear of Derwent College.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1.
  • Wall mounted information boards are not provided at lift landings.
  • The weight limit for the lift is 1000 kg.
  • Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The clear door width is 90cm (2ft 11in).
  • The dimensions of the lift are 160cm x 140cm (5ft 3in x 4ft 7in).
  • There are not separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
  • There is a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.
  • The lift does have a visual floor indicator.
  • The lift does have an audible announcer.
  • The lift does not have a hearing enhancement system.
  • The lift does not have Braille markings.
  • The lift does have tactile markings.
  • The controls for the lift are within 90cm - 120cm from the floor.
  • The lighting level in the lift is bright.

    • To reach the lift from Derwent Block J there is a steep slope (photograph 3).

Derwent College / Chemistry Bridge to Morrell Way Bridge

  • On leaving the lift on the upper level turn right and head across the bridge (photograph 1).
  • Upon crossing the bridge immediately turn left and head up the steep slope (photograph 2).
  • Head along the side of Chemistry Blocks D/ E (photographs 3), and after reaching the end of the building turn right until you reach the Seebohm Rowntree Building Accessible Parking Area (photographs 5).
  • Upon reaching the Seebohm Rowntree Building Accessible Parking Area turn left and head 30m towards Alcuin East Wing (photographs 7 and 8).
  • Turn right and continue around the Alcuin East Wing for approximately 30m before turning left into the area between the Alcuin East Wing and Alcuin D Block (photograph 9).
  • Continue ahead for approximately 90m (photographs 10, 11 and 12).
  • At the end of the building turn left at the way marking sign (photograph 12) there is a steep slope heading downwards.
  • Continue along this path, the railings to the Morrell Way Bridge will become visible on the right.

Morrell Way Bridge to University Library Main Entrance

  • Cross the Morrell Way Bridge, which has slight slopes to access and exit on either side (photographs 1 and 2).
  • After crossing the bridge turn left and follow the path around the University Library for approximately 40m until you reach the University Library Main Entrance (photographs 3, 4 5 and 6).

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

  • Second Set of Doors View
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 124cm (4ft 1in).

    • There is a third set of doors to access the library with a width of 128cm.
    • There are alternate entrance doors that bypass the first set of entrance doors. These can be seen in photograph 4.
