Walled and Kitchen Gardens

  • The Walled Garden is immediately behind the Tea Rooms and The Kitchen Garden, approximately 200 metres away.
  • Disabled access to the gardens is via a signed pathway to the left which bypasses the uneven surfaces of the courtyard.
  • All pathways consist of loose gravel and are mainly level or have slight slopes, with the notable exception of the path from the Walled to the Kitchen Gardens which is steep for approximately 10 metres.
  • Most archways are wide with the exception of the doorway from the Walled Garden to the front of the house which is 90cm wide and has a deep step at the threshold.
  • Where visitors may find it difficult to use the gravel paths, they are encouraged to walk on the grass instead should they wish.
  • There are plenty of benches with armrests and picnic tables throughout the gardens.
  • The pathway from the Walled Garden to the Kitchen Garden crosses a road which may be busy at times.
  • Access to the Walled Garden is via the Nuttery which has a gate with an opening width of 155cm.
  • The pathway through the Nuttery is grass. There is alternative access to the Kitchen Garden via the loose gravel path by ignoring the Kitchen Garden sign and continuing straight on.
  • Most pathways in the Walled Garden are wide, although they do narrow in places.
