Toilet and Changing Facilities

Parking

  • Car Park View
    • The car park is located to the front and side of the visitor centre, off Hill Bark Road.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac, compacted earth and unsurfaced areas.
    • There are no designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
  • Charges and Restrictions View
    • Parking is not free for all users.
    • Parking is free for Blue Badge holders.
    • Clearly presented parking signs are available.
    • Payment machines are located to the right on leaving the main car park on foot.
    • There is a payment machine with controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
    • There is not a level manoeuvring space for a wheelchair user in front of the payment machine (185cm x 210cm).

  • Drop-off Point View
    • There is a designated drop-off point available.
    • The designated drop-off point is located to the front of the standard toilet block.

Access Point (Country Park Pathways)

  • This access point is located to the left of the visitor centre.
  • The approach to the access point has uneven surfaces.
  • The access point is not clearly signed.
  • There is step-free level access.
  • There is open access.

Outdoor Spaces (Park)

  • The following is available in this area: parkland, woodland, formal gardens, open countryside, a toilet block and a visitor centre.
  • Additional facilities in this area include: the Courtyard Café at the visitor centre.
  • Outdoor areas consist of concrete or tarmac, loose chippings, grass, compact earth and loose stones.
  • There are footpaths throughout.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
  • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: Roodee Mere fishing area.
  • There are seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have uneven surfaces.
  • The route to the miniature railway is to the rear of the car park. At the time of survey, (July 2025) there was no access to the miniature railway.

Access Point (Walled Nature Garden)

  • This access point is located to the left of the standard toilet block.
  • The approach to the access point has uneven surfaces.
  • The access point is clearly signed.
  • There is step-free access via slope.
  • The slope has a slight gradient.
  • There are double manual gates.
  • The gates are permanently held open.
  • The width of the opening is 92cm.
  • The gates have a medium visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Outdoor Spaces (Walled Nature Garden)

  • The following is available in this area: formal gardens.
  • Additional facilities in this area include: seating.
  • Outdoor areas consist of concrete or tarmac, compact earth and paving slabs.
  • There are footpaths throughout.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas.
  • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the paved area beyond the entrance, to the left.
  • The following areas have stepped access: the paved area beyond the entrance, to the left.
  • There are seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have uneven surfaces.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)

  • Location and Access View
    • The toilet surveyed is located to the right of the entrance to the Courtyard Café and visitor centre.
    • The distance from the disabled drop-off area is 27m.
    • The most accessible route to the toilet has a very easy slope.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is no signage on or near the door.
    • The door opens inwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 86cm.
    • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
    • Internally the door has a low visual contrast.
    • There is a grab rail on the internal door with a high visual contrast.
  • Dimensions and Features View
    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 214cm (width) x 296cm (depth) and there is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet, however it is obstructed.
    • The lateral transfer space is 99cm (from the side of the toilet pan).
    • There is a spatula flush on the non-transfer side.
    • There is a horizontal grab rail on the non-transfer side.
    • The horizontal grab rail has a high visual contrast.
    • There is a vertical grab rail on the transfer side.
