Introduction

  • Kingsbury is in the town centre of Aylesbury.
    The A41 is approximately 0.2 miles (322m) away via Market Square and Walton Street.
    This guide covers the main shopping area of Kingsbury which runs in a loop between the junction of High Street and Market Square to the south and Buckingham Street to the north.
    This guide has junctions with High Street, Market Square, Buckingham Street, George Street and Pebble Lane.
    The route is approximately 0.2 miles (322m) and takes approximately 3-4 minutes to walk.
    The shopping area is on both sides of the roadway with traffic coming from High Street into Kingsbury and exiting from Buckingham Street.
    There are some easy to moderate slopes throughout which runs uphill from High Street towards Buckingham Street.
    Pathway surfaces are a mixture concrete paving slabs, block paving and cobbles.
    The pathways have some uneven sections, which include some raised manhole covers.

Getting Here

  • By Car
  • The A41 is at the southern end of High Street and is accessed via Market Square and High Street.
  • The A41 has direct links to the M25, London, Tring and Bicester.
  • This street guide runs in a loop between High Street and Market Place to the south to Buckingham Street in the north.
  • Parking
  • There is limited on street Blue Badge and standard parking available in Market Street, Kingsbury and George Street.
  • There are some public car parks available close by such as Friars Square Shopping Centre Multi-Storey Car Park in Station Way East, Exchange Street Car Park in Exchange Street (A41) and Waterside North Car Park in Exchange Street (A41).
  • By Bus
  • There are bus stops available in nearby Friarage Road (A41), on the opposite side of Friars Square Shopping Centre and also in Exchange Street (A41) at the southern tip of Walton Street.
  • There are direct bus services available to Watford, Pitstone, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Steeple Claydon, Leighton Buzzard, Tring and many more.

  • By Train
  • Aylesbury Station is located in Station Way West and is approximately 0.3 miles from Kingsbury.
  • There is step-free access to all platforms at this station via a steep barrow ramp.
  • There are direct train services available to London Marylebone, Aylesbury Vale, High Wycombe, Amersham and Chorleywood.

Parking

  • There are limited on-street Blue Badge and Standard parking bays on George Street, Kingsbury, Market Square, High Street and some surrounding side roads.
  • The on-street standard parking is pay and display via various payment meters.
  • Blue Badge holders can park for free in any bay for 2 hours with no return within 1 hour.
  • The on-street Blue Badge bays in High Street and Market Square are 290cm width.
  • The length of these bays varies as it is strip parking, however they do merge into the on street standard strip parking area and photographs 1, 2 and 3 show examples of this parking.

  • Public Car Parks
  • There is a car park in Exchange Street (A41) called Waterside North Car Park which is chargeable and has 6 Blue Badge parking bays available.
  • The bays are 360cm wide by 490cm in length.

Junction – High Street, Buckingham Street, Kingsbury and Market Square

  • There is five crossing points at this junction for pedestrians to cross High Street, Buckingham Street, Market Square and Kingsbury.
  • Crossings are either level or have dropped kerbs on both sides with no tactile markings.
  • The surface of the roads is tarmac or block paving.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • Although the area is mainly for pedestrian use, there are often delivery and service vehicles using the roads.

  • There are some bollards on the pathway at this junction.
  • These bollards are well marked, close to the roadway, with a width of 155cm between them.

Kingsbury Loop

  • The pathways throughout Kingsbury are block paved and run along the roadway one way between High Street, Market Square and Buckingham Street.
  • There is a cobbled area near the main shopping area which is used for various events and restaurant outdoor seating.
  • There is an easy to steep slope uphill between High Street and Market Square to Buckingham Street.
  • There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as signs, cash points, railings, cycle racks, bus stops, bins and signboards.
  • There are some side entrances and crossings along the loop which have dropped kerbs, with many not having tactile markings.

  • The length of this section of the route is approximately 0.2 miles (322m) and takes approximately 6-8 minutes to walk.

Junction - George Street and Kingsbury

  • There is one main crossing point at this junction for pedestrians to cross George Street.
  • The crossing has dropped kerbs on both sides with no tactile markings.
  • The surface of the roads is block paving.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • George Street is a one-way road with traffic entering from Kingsbury.

Junction - Pebble Lane and Kingsbury

  • There are two crossing points at this junction for pedestrians to cross Pebble Lane and Kingsbury.
  • The crossings are level.
  • There are dropped kerbs on both side with no tactile markings at the crossing in Kingsbury.
  • The surface of the roads is block paving.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • Pebble Lane is an alley with limited vehicle access in both directions.

Junction - Kingsbury and Buckingham Street

  • There are two crossing points at this junction for pedestrians to cross Kingsbury and Buckingham Street.
  • There is a Zebra crossing point that is level on one side and with a slight slope to the other.
  • The Zebra crossing is located outside Paddy Power bookmakers.
  • The crossing has dropped kerbs on both sides with no tactile markings.

  • Although the area is mainly pedestrian there is traffic from Kingsbury into Buckingham Street.
