Getting Here

  • By Car
  • The A41 is approximately 0.1 miles (162m) away via Walton Street.
  • The guide runs between the A41, A413 and Canal Basin.
  • Parking
  • There is limited on street Blue Badge and standard parking available in Walton Street, High Street and Market Street.
  • There are some public car parks available close by such as Waterside Multi-Storey Car Park, Waterside North Car Park and Exchange Street Car Park which are all in Exchange Street (A41).
  • By Bus
  • There are bus stops available in nearby Friarage Road (A41), on the opposite side of Friars Square Shopping Centre and also in Exchange Street (A41) at the southern tip of Walton Street.
  • There are direct bus services available to Watford, Pitstone, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Steeple Claydon, Leighton Buzzard, Tring and many more.

  • Aylesbury Station is located in Station Way West and is approximately 0.4 miles from the Waterside South area.
  • There is step-free access to all platforms at this station via a steep barrow ramp.
  • There are direct train services available to London Marylebone, Aylesbury Vale, High Wycombe, Amersham and Chorleywood.

Parking

  • On Street Parking
  • There is limited on street Blue Badge and standard parking bays in Walton Street, High Street and some surrounding side roads.
  • The on street standard parking is pay and display via various payment meters.
  • Blue Badge holders can park for free in any bay for 2 hours with no return within 1 hour.
  • There are some marked Blue Badge bays in Walton Street that are 290cm in width by 500cm in length.
  • These bays merge into the on street standard strip parking area.

  • Public Car Parks
  • Waterside Multi-Storey, Waterside North and the Exchange Street Car Parks are in Exchange Street (A41).
  • These are chargeable for all to use.
  • Both Waterside North and the Exchange Street Car Parks have 10 or more well marked Blue Badge parking bays which are 360cm in width by 490cm in length.
  • The car parks have ample standard parking bays.
  • Photographs 1 and 2 show the entrance/exit ramp to the Waterside Multi-Storey Car Park.
  • Photographs 3, 4, 5 and 6 show the Blue Badge and standard parking at Waterside North Car Park.

Junction - A41 Exchange Street and Waterside Multi-Storey Car Park Approach Road

  • There is one crossing point at this junction for pedestrians to cross the Waterside Multi-Storey Car Park approach road.
  • The crossing has an easy downhill slope running towards the A41 from the approach road and has dropped kerbs and tactile markings on both sides, with a small island in the middle.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • This is a two-way entrance/exit into the car park.

A41 Exchange Street and Waterside Multi-Storey Car Park Approach Road to Canal Basin (Travelodge/Waitrose)

  • The pathway throughout this section is block paved and tarmac, mostly wide with some narrower sections.
  • The pathway has some uneven sections throughout.
  • The pathway is mainly on an uphill easy slope leading from the A41 Exchange Street.
  • There are cycle racks, bins and some wall seating with armrests on both sides available throughout the area.
  • There are some raised grass areas throughout that are accessed via four steps, 14cm in height.
  • There are bollards on the approach to Waitrose. These bollards do not have visual identification bands and are set 170cm apart.
  • The steps do not have handrails.
  • The nearest bus stop is on A41 Exchange Street.

Junction - A41 Exchange Street and Aylesbury Waterside Theatre

  • There is a pedestrian crossing point at this junction for pedestrians to cross the A41 towards The Exchange and to cross the other side of the road.
  • The pedestrian crossing has an easy downhill slope running towards the A41 from Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and an easy to steep slope on the opposite side of the crossing.
  • The pedestrian crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile markings on both sides, with a small island in the middle.
  • The pedestrian crossing has the red and green man flashing symbol with a the rotating cone.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving and tarmac
  • There is wall seating available at this junction which have armrests on both sides.

A41 Exchange Street and Aylesbury Waterside Theatre to Canal Basin (Travelodge/Waitrose)

  • The pathway throughout this section is block paved.
  • There are uneven sections throughout.
  • The pathway is generally level with some easy slopes uphill leading away from the A41 Exchange Street and passing Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.
  • There are cycle racks, bins and some wall seating available with armrests on both sides throughout the area.
  • The nearest bus stop is in A41 Exchange Street.

Junction - Canal Basin (Travelodge/Waitrose) Area

  • This area is next to the Canal, Waitrose and Travelodge Hotel on the pathway leading from the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and A41 Exchange Street.
  • All pathways meet to cross a stream.
  • There are bollards off the pathway that leads from A41 Exchange Street, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and Waterside Multi-Storey Car Park approach road.
  • The bollards are 110cm apart and are silver in colour.
  • There is an easy ramp to the right with handrails on both sides and in the centre leading towards the University and Canal Basin (photograph 6).
  • There is an easy downhill slope leading from the canal towards the Travelodge Hotel and Waitrose (photograph 8).
  • There are two sets of steps between the canal, Waitrose and Travelodge Hotel and the bollards.
  • Photograph 5 shows the steps opposite the Canal Basin and photograph 7 shows the steps leading towards Waitrose.
  • Both sets of steps have handrails on both sides and are medium in height.
  • The surface of the pathway is block paving.

Canal Basin (Travelodge/Waitrose) to A413 Walton Street and University Campus Aylesbury Vale

  • The pathway throughout this section is block paved and very wide.
  • The pathway has uneven sections throughout.
  • The pathway is generally level with some easy slopes downhill leading away from the canal.
  • There is a slight slope with handrails on both side leading to the University approach.
  • There are 2 steps with hand rails on both sides leading to the University approach. The steps are 13cm High and 29cm deep. They can be circumnavigated by use if the slope.
  • There are 2 steps on the approach to Waitrose. These step have hand rails on both sides and are 16cm High and 41cm deep . They can be circumnavigated by use of the slight slope to the right hand side
  • There are some bollards alongside the canal which stand out from the pathway.
  • There is some bench seating available with armrests on both sides throughout the area.
  • The nearest bus stop is in A413 Walton Street.

Junction - University Campus Aylesbury Vale Car Park off A413 Walton Street

  • There is no traditional crossing point at this junction as it leads into a two-way road and then onto a pathway next to University Campus Aylesbury Vale car park and Kingfisher House.
  • The pathway has no dropped kerbs or tactile markings.
  • There are bollards at the junction point with a width of 120cm between them.
  • The bollards are not clearly marked.
  • The is an easy ramp on the left immediately beyond the junction next to the building, with no handrails.
  • There is one step without handrails to the right of the ramp that is 13cm in height.
  • The surface of the pathway is block paving.
