Introduction

Getting Here

  • By Car
  • The A41 is approximately 0.1 miles (162m) away via Walton Street at the southern junction end.
  • This street guide runs in a loop between Walton Street and Long Lionel to the south and Market Street and High Street to the north west.
  • Parking
  • There is limited on street Blue Badge and standard parking available in nearby Walton Street, High Street and Market Street.
  • There are some public car parks available close by such as Waterside North Car Park in Exchange Street (A41), Exchange Street Car Park in Exchange Street (A41) and Friars Square Shopping Centre Multi-Storey Car Park in Station Way East.
  • By Bus
  • There are bus stops available in nearby Friarage Road (A41), on the opposite side of Friars Square Shopping Centre and also in Exchange Street (A41) at the southern tip of Walton Street.
  • There are direct bus services available to Watford, Pitstone, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Steeple Claydon, Leighton Buzzard, Tring and many more.

  • By Train
  • Aylesbury Station is located in Station Way West and is approximately 0.3 miles from The Exchange.
  • There is step-free access to all platforms at this station via a steep barrow ramp.
  • There are direct train services available to London Marylebone, Aylesbury Vale, High Wycombe, Amersham and Chorleywood.

Parking

  • There is limited on-street Blue Badge and Standard parking bays in High Street, Market Street, Walton Street and some surrounding side roads.
  • The standard parking is pay and display via payment meters on the streets.
  • Blue Badge holders can park for free in any bay for 2 hours with no return within 1 hour.
  • There are some marked Blue Badge bays in Walton Street that are 290cm in width by 460cm in length.
  • These bays merge into the on-street standard strip parking area and photographs 1, 2 and 3 show examples of this parking.
  • Waterside North Car Park on Exchange Street (A41) is chargeable for all to use.
  • There is another car park in Exchange Street (A41) called Exchange Street Car Park which is also a chargeable.
  • Both car parks have 10 or more well-marked Blue Badge parking bays which are 230cn in width by 460cm in length and both car parks have ample standard parking bays.

Junction - A41 and Waterside North Car Park

  • There is one crossing point at this junction for pedestrians to the car park entrance.
  • The crossing has an easy downhill slope running towards the A41 from the car park and has dropped kerbs and tactile markings on both sides.
  • The surface of the roads is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving, tarmac and concrete.
  • This is a two-way entrance into the car park.

A41 / Waterside North Car Park to The Exchange Square

  • The pathway throughout this section is tarmac and concrete.
  • The pathway is generally wide.
  • The pathway has some narrows areas where cars in the car park overhang the parking bays.
  • There is a steep slope uphill from the A41 towards The Exchange Square, which becomes an easy slope as you approach The Exchange Square.
  • There are some uneven areas on the pathways throughout this section.
  • There are some obstructions along the pavement on both sides such as car that overhang the parking bays.
  • There are bus stops nearby on the A41.
  • The length of this section of the route is approximately 0.1 miles (160m) and takes 2-3minutes to walk.

Junction - Waterside North Car Park and The Exchange Square

  • There are bollards at this junction point which are 125cm apart and well marked.
  • This is a dividing point between the Waterside North Car Park and The Exchange Square.
  • There is an easy slope downhill running towards the A41 from this junction.
  • This is a pedestrian area.
  • The surface of the pathway is tarmac and concrete.

Junction – Long Lionel, The Exchange and Market Square

  • There are two crossing points at this junction for pedestrians to cross Long Lionel, The Exchange and Market Square.
  • All of the crossings have an easy downhill slope running into The Exchange and have dropped kerbs and tactile markings on both sides.
  • The surface of the roads is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • Although the area is mainly for pedestrian use, there are often delivery and service vehicles using the roads.
  • Photographs 1, 2 and 3 show the crossing over The Exchange.
  • Photographs 4 ,5 and 6 show the crossing over Long Lionel.
  • There are some bollards on the pathway at these junctions.
  • These bollards are well marked, close to the roadway and have a width of 155cm.

Market Square to The Exchange Square

  • The pathway throughout this section is block paved and tarmac and generally wide, however it does narrows in some areas where you pass entrances, seating and signage.
  • There is an easy slope downhill from Market Square towards The Exchange Square.
  • The area is mainly pedestrianised with access for delivery and service vehicles only.
  • There are some dropped kerbs without tactile markings as you cross some side roads.

Junction - A41 and The White Hart

  • There is one crossing point at this junction for pedestrians to cross the A41.
  • This crossing is a pedestrian crossing with the green and red man symbols and push buttons.
  • There is an easy slope at both sides of the crossing.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • There are bollards at this junction which have a width of 125cm between them.

  • Some of the pathways are uneven at this junction.

A41 to The Exchange Square / The Exchange Car Park

  • There are two pathways on much of this section that begin at the A41 and merge just before reaching The Exchange Square.
  • Both pathways start as an easy slope uphill from the A41 towards The Exchange Square, then they become steep uphill slopes very quickly.
  • The pathway to the left as you enter from the A41 towards The Exchange Square is wide and has a surface of tarmac and block paving throughout.
  • The pathway to the right as you enter from the A41 towards The Exchange Square is wide and has a surface of tarmac until it merges with the left pathway.
  • The pathways are in a pedestrian area.
  • The length of this section of the route is approximately 0.1 miles (160m) and takes 2-3minutes to walk.

Junction - The Exchange Square / Costa and Exchange Street Car Park

  • The junction has bollards as you enter from the pathway leading from the A41 and bollards on the pathway leading from Exchange Street Car Park.
  • These bollards have a width of 155cm between them at both points.
  • The surface of the roads is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathways is block paving.
  • There is an easy downhill slope leading to the A41 at this junction.

  • Photographs 3 and 4 show the bollards on the pathway leading from Exchange Street Car Park.

The Exchange Square

  • The Exchange Square has several venues available such as ODEON, Costa, Rococo Lounge, Wagamama and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
  • The pathways are block paved throughout with several easy ramps/slopes throughout.
  • Some of the venues have ramps and steps to access them such as Costa and ODEON.
  • There are several art sculptures in the area.
  • There are opportunities to sit and rest throughout.
