Overview

Getting Inside

  • There are uneven surfaces on approach to the Learning Resource Centre from the St Peter's Street car park.
  • The Learning Resource Centre has five entrances.
    There is one external entrance and three entrances from within the Core, as well as one staircase within the Tower Block that can be used to access the first floor of the Learning Resource Centre.
    The external main entrance provides level access and has two sets of automatic double doors.
  • The main entrance is signed as Welcome.
    The other entrance are not signed.
  • The main entrance provides level access to the Learning Resource Centre on the lower part of the ground floor.
    The library entrance is located along the corridor to the rear of the Core. This entrance provides the only step-free access into the Learning Resource Centre Library.
  • There are to separate stepped entrances into the lower part of the ground floor in the main refectory area of the Core.
    There is a staircase in the Tower Block that provides stepped access directly into the Teaching room on the first floor.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the Learning Resource Centre on all floors.
  • Step-free level access into the Learning Resource Centre Library is only available via the library entrance situated on the corridor located between the Core refectory and the Motor Vehicle Workshop.
    From within the Learning Resource Centre on the ground floor there are five 19cm steps with clear contrast and a handrail to the left to access the library area.
  • The flooring in the circulation routes is carpeted.
  • There are chairs without armrest in the circulation areas alongside a small amount of bench seating in the LRC Study areas and circulation routes.
  • There is no wayfinding signage within the Learning Resource Centre.
  • There are no manual doors within the circulation routes.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There is 1 toilet with adaptations.
    • The toilet with adaptations is located on the lower part of the ground floor to your left on entering the Learning Resource Centre via the main entrance.
    • The toilet with adaptations has a left hand transfer space.
    • The toilet with adaptions is also signed for use as a standard shared toilet.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on the lower part of the ground floor to your left on entering the Learning Resource Centre via the main entrance.

Parking (St Peter's Street)

  • Car Park View
    • The car park is located to the south of the Tower Block building off St Peter's Street.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac.
    • There are 2 designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked.
    • The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 320cm (width) x 470cm (depth).
    • There are no hatched/marked zones.
    • The nearest designated bay is 20m from the Tower Block south entrance / Learning Resource Centre main entrance.
    • The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has step-free level access.
  • Charges and Restrictions View
    • This car park is for staff permit holders and student permit holders only.
    • Parking is free for all users.
    • Clearly presented parking signs are not available.
  • Drop-off Point View
    • There is not a designated drop-off point available.

Entrance (Main)

  • This entrance is located off the St Peter's Street car park.
  • The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 85cm.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open towards you.

Access To (Library from The Core)

  • The only step-free access into the library is located along the corridor to the rear of The Core.
  • To reach this access point from the Learning Resource Centre it is necessary to use the stair lift to bypass the steps at the entrance to The Core.
    Then travel along the corridor to the rear of The Core heading towards the Motor Vehicle Workshop.

  • The most accessible route has step-free level access, a platform lift and shiny flooring.
  • There is no signage on or near the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access into the library.
  • The width of the opening is 145cm.
  • There are no doors at the entrance only a shutter.
    The shutter is generally kept closed please alert a member of staff in order to have it opened.

  • The reception is located in front of you on entrance into the library on the ground floor.
  • The distance from the Learning Resource Library entrance is 5m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 73cm.
  • There is not a lowered section at the desk.
  • The reception has patterned/distracting backgrounds.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
  • The flooring is patterned.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.

Library

  • There is step-free level access throughout the library.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • There is space for an assistance dog to rest in the seating area.
  • The flooring is patterned.
  • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
  • Seating available in the library includes: chairs without armrests.
  • Furniture available in the library includes: tables.
  • Some tables are fixed.
  • The surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
  • The clear underside space of the surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located in front of you on entrance.
  • This lift is a platform lift.
  • The distance from the Learning Resource Centre entrance is 20m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access.
  • The ground and first floor are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 100cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 150cm (width) x 110cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have a high visual contrast.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The button needs to be pressed constantly when in use.

Stairs

  • The stairs surveyed are located in the central area of the Learning Resource Centre.
  • The ground and first floor can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 17 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
