About Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead lies to the west of London, enjoying a 20-mile stretch of the mighty River Thames from Hurley in the east, through Maidenhead, Eton and Windsor to Runnymede.

It has long been an escape from the capital:  the Romans constructed villas along the fertile banks and later it became the rural retreat for the monarchy.  In the Victorian era wealthy industrialists built Neoclassical homes along the riverside and it was much frequented by Londoners on day trips.

The towns and villages of the Royal Borough are still prized and largely unspoiled and this remains the perfect place for visiting the many wonderful attractions and cultural venues, for shopping and dining and of course, as it says in The Wind in The Willows, “messing about in boats.”
