Hikes and Trails (Lakeside Walk)

  • The trail is approximately 1.5 miles.
  • The Lakeside Walk is a circular route starting at the Visitor Centre, or the South Entrance.
    On the west side of the lake there are upper and lower tracks for parts of the route.
    On the east side there is a single track.
  • The trail is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, gravel and compacted gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: the upper tracks on the west side of the lake, along all the trails, and at the airlock past the weir at the south side of the track (leading down to the weir).
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.

Entrance (South Entrance - Beaver Enclosure)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the right after the South Entrance, along the lakeside trail.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual gate which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 143cm.
  • There is a second manual gate which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 143cm.
  • The entrance is designed as an airlock arrangement past the weir at the South end of the lake.
    There are 2 identical sets of 2 gates, which give access to the lakeside trail on the east side of the lake.
