Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free level.
  • The Faculty of Classics (Classics Stage 2 and 3) building has two entrances. Entrance 2 provides step-free access via a slight ramp to the bottom of the stairs (right of building), and Room G.19 on the ground floor. There is no internal step-free access from here to any other areas of the ground floor. There are double manual doors at this entrance (with one leaf locked). Entrance 3 provides step-free access via a steep ramp to all areas of the ground floor, and all other floors via the lift. There are push-pad activated double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The entrances are signed as Entrance 2 and Entrance 3.
  • Entrance 3 provides step-free access via a steep ramp to all areas of the ground floor, and all other floors via the lift.
  • Entrance 2 provides step-free access via a slight ramp to the bottom of the stairs (right of building), and Room G.19 on the ground floor. There is no internal step-free access from here to any other areas of the ground floor.
  • There is internal step-free level access between Classics Stage 1 and Classics Stage 2 and 3 via a single automatic door, which opens away from you when exiting Classics Stage 1. The door has an opening width of 97cm, a high colour contrast, and is push-pad activated. The push pads from both directions are 94cm high.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors, and step free level access to all floors via lift.
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes consist of low pile carpet, shiny wood and shiny block paving, the latter of which has an uneven surface.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas, with a mixture of seating.
  • Wall-mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are not manual doors in any circulation corridors, only to access stairwells.

    • There is 1 toilet with adaptations.
    • The toilet with adaptations is located on the ground floor, immediately to the left as you enter through Entrance 3.
    • The toilet with adaptations has a left hand transfer space.
    • Ambulant toilet facilities are located within the standard male and female toilets.
    • The male toilet facilities are located on the stairs (right of building), between the ground floor and the first floor.
    • The female toilet facilities are located on the stairs (right of building), between the first floor and the second floor.

Entrance (Entrance 2)

  • This entrance is located to the front right of the building.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with no handrails.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 119cm.
  • There are double manual doors at this entrance, however one door is locked.
  • The doors open towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 68cm.
  • The doors have a medium visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 120cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.
  • This entrance leads only to Room G.19 and the bottom to the stairs (right of building). There is no internal step-free access to the rest of the ground floor from this entrance.

Entrance (Entrance 3)

  • This entrance is located to the front left of the building.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a steep gradient.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide with no handrails.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 91cm.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open towards you.
  • There is a push pad at a height of 75cm.
  • The width of the opening is 111cm.
  • The doors have a medium visual contrast.
  • There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 100cm.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Lift (Main Lift)

  • The lift surveyed is located immediately to the right as you enter the building through Entrance 3.
  • The distance from Entrance 3 is 4m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and automatic doors.
  • Floors ground, 1 and 2 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have a medium visual contrast and tactile markings.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 79cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 99cm (width) x 127cm (depth).
  • The internal lift control buttons have a medium visual contrast and tactile markings.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

Stairs (Right of Building - Inside Entrance 2)

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the right of the building, immediately ahead as you enter the building via Entrance 2.
  • Floors ground , 1 and 2 can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 19 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.

Stairs (Left of Building - Inside Entrance 3)

  • The stairs surveyed are located straight ahead as you enter the building through Entrance 3.
  • Floors ground, 1 and 2 can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 19 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Ground Floor - Inside Entrance 3 - Left Hand Transfer)

    • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
    • The width of the door opening is 84cm.

    • The dimensions of the cubicle are 177cm (width) x 195cm (depth) and there is not room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
