Summary

Front of Campus Car Park (Car Park 1) – Information for Vehicle Users

  • The car park at the front of the campus has a surface comprised of block paving and tarmac.
  • The Blue Badge bays are located to the rear left as you enter the car park, adjacent to Cleves Court. There are three Blue Badge bays, which are clearly marked, with dimensions of 251cm x 480cm, and a hatched zone on one side only with a width of 120cm. From the Blue Badge Bays, head left back towards the main roadway, and then turn right, where there is a dropped kerb with a slight gradient (but no tactile paving) leading onto the route.
  • If parking in standard parking bays, the car park covers a large area, with various sections where you can park.
  • Where you park/enter within Car Park 1 will define the start of your route. The pavements within the car park join and start to lead towards the campus. There are no steep ramps/slopes apart from the speed humps in the roadways, and at dropped kerbs.
  • From some spaces the road will have to be used to gain access to the pavement as there are only a few dropped kerbs by crossings.

Route Guide: Front of campus Car Park to Catherine Parr Court

  • As you enter the campus, follow the pavement on the left-hand side for approximately 20m and cross the access road. This is opposite the security post in the centre of the road.
  • There is a payment machine and bin on your left but the space on the pavement is still sufficiently wide (over 150cm).
  • The crossing point has a dropped kerb with a steep gradient and tactile paving on the nearside, followed by a dropped kerb with a steep gradient and no tactile paving on the far side.
  • Turn left and continue along the block-paved path running alongside the car park and Parr Court.

Catherine Parr Court to Grey Building

  • Where the path forks by a signpost, turn left to follow the "accessible route to all buildings"
  • The pavement is still even but a bin and payment machine narrow it to 154cm. Within 25m the pavement meets the access road and turns right.
  • The pavement has a slight slope towards the roadway here before two further dropped kerbs with steep gradients on either side of the roadway accessing an area of parking spaces on your right. There are three Blue Badge bays in this area.
  • Follow the pavement for approximately 34m as it curves towards the Grey Building. The pavement has an even block-paved surface, has a dropped kerb to the roadway on your left, and heads downhill. The gradient varies between slight and steep.
  • You will pass a zebra crossing across the road before the pavement merges with another path. There is a bell-shaped bollard and bin ahead, which narrow the path but not to under 120cm. The Grey Building is on your right as the path brings you to a zebra crossing.

Grey Building to the Library and Wren Buildings

  • Cross the access road in front of the Grey Building using the zebra crossing. There are dropped kerbs with slight gradients and no tactile paving on both the near and far side of the crossing.
  • Go straight ahead along the tarmac path leading from the far side of the crossing. Follow it for approximately 30m, past a stepped entrance to the Grey Building, to a zebra crossing over the roadway in between the Grey and the Bronte Building.
  • The crossing is raised to the level of the pavement, so there is no level change. The crossing has no tactile paving. Head across the zebra crossing and straight ahead along the tarmac path which has a very slight gradient.
  • Head past the Library Health Sciences Building on your right and the Wren Building on your left.

Library and Wren Buildings to Mary Seacole

  • Continue straight ahead along the path between the buildings, avoiding the steps up to the Library entrance on your right.
  • As you approach the David Fussey Building (left) and Mary Seacole Building (right), there is a large wayfinding signpost, and the path surface changes to paving slabs.
  • The path opens up here in between the buildings, with various benches and tables.
  • Continue straight ahead through the gap between the David Fussey and Mary Seacole Buildings. The path here now has a slight uphill slope.

Mary Seacole to Seymour Court Entrance

  • From in between the Mary Seacole and David Fussey buildings, the Seymour Court accommodation block is located ahead of you, with a wayfinding signpost in front of it. Bear left up the path leading diagonally across the grass verge, which brings you around to the side of Seymour Court.
  • The first 4m of this path consists of tarmac and has a steep uphill gradient, before it levels out and the surface changes to block paving.
  • Follow this path until you reach the entrance to Seymour Court on your right.

Seymour Court Entrance to Car Park 3 Path

  • Ignore the entrance to Seymour Court on your right and continue straight ahead along a level tarmac path, passing to the left of a recently erected prefab building. At the end of this building, turn left down a slight slope to enter Car Park 3, again with the prefab building to your left.
  • Head diagonally to your left across the first section of the car park, which has a level block-paved surface, and then turn right, following the car park roadway as is curves around to your right.
  • After approximately 70m, there is a path on your left, with a finger post signed "Sparrows Farm". Turn left onto this path.

Car Park 3 Path to Key Card Gate

  • Head along the path between the green changing room block on your left and sports pitches A, B, C, D on your right. The path has a tarmac surface with some slight slopes in places, and there are some lamp posts in the centre of the path. Beyond the changing room block, the path brings you to a tall hedge and fence, turns right, and runs alongside it for around 80m.
  • You then reach a locked metal gate at the end of the hedge. A university key card is needed to pass through this gate.
  • The key card reader is 112cm high and the key code controls are 99cm-104cm high. The gate is single, heavy, and opens towards you with a width of 121cm.

Key Card Gate to Sport Sciences Entrance - Sparrows Farm

  • Go through the gate. The path continues to be comprised of tarmac, but is initially very uneven due to tree roots breaking the surface. It bends to the right and crosses a public footpath. There is further wayfinding signage at this crossing point indicating the route to Sparrows Farm.
  • This section of the path is enclosed, with a palisade metal fence and playing fields to your left and a strip of woodland to your right. It is level and has a smooth surface, with a few manhole covers which protrude slightly. After around 100m, the enclosed area opens out, and the path bends to the left, continuing to run alongside the playing field perimeter fence. There is then a short but steep uphill slope as the path turns away from the fence and crosses a small bridge over a drainage ditch. The building at Sparrows Farm is now ahead of you.
  • The path levels out and now continues straight ahead along the left hand side of the building, with the Sport Sciences entrance door to your right.

Sport Sciences Entrance Door to the Main Entrance - Sparrows Farm

  • Pass the Sport Sciences entrance on your right, with signage ahead for Sparrows Farm. The path forks, with the left fork leading towards the car park, and the right fork leading towards the front of the building. The path to the right has a slight uphill slope as it goes past benches on the right.
  • As you reach the corner of the building, the path narrows to 100cm. Turn right and continue straight ahead along the front of the building, with it immediately to your right.
  • There are some short bollards with a high visual contrast to your left, along the perimeter of the car park.
  • You will shortly reach a canopy, where the path surface becomes concrete. The doors at the main entrance to Sparrows Farm are now immediately to your right, which is where the route ends.
