Access Guide
Introduction
- This is a route from the University Welcome Centre to the RSU Building in Froebel College via university paths and access roads. This route passes Lee House, Stuart Lodge, Erasmus House, The Digby Chapel, The Hive, The Den Diner and Café, Grove House, Montefiore and the Lawrence Building.
- This route is approximately 650m long and takes around 7 minutes to complete. The main hazards on this route are steep slopes and shared space roads.

Welcome Centre to Stuart Lodge
- Turn left after exiting the University Welcome Centre.
- This area has an even and level, stone block surface.
- Turn right after approximately 15m onto the shared space university access road.
- There is a row of low level bollards marking the edge of the pedestrian area and shared space road.
- Follow the shared space road along the side of Lee House for approximately 100m.
- The shared space road has a varying slight gradient with a brick block surface.
- There are multiple parking spaces along the left side of the shared space road.
- The road leads to the front of Stuart Lodge (Security Services and Student Post Room) with the Santander Bank Branch on the right. These buildings and services are shown in photographs 9 and 10.
- There is sloped access to both areas.
Stuart Lodge to Digby Stuart Square
- Head straight between Stuart Lodge and the Santander Branch underneath the gated archway (shown in photograph 1).
- The path here has a slight slope with a tarmac surface.
- After approximately 30m turn left past the hedge and follow the slightly sloped path (shown in photographs 5 and 6) along the side of Erasmus House, turning right to follow the building to the Digby Chapel front entrance (shown in photographs 7 and 8).
- Head through the Digby Chapel to the side entrance.
- Exit the Digby Chapel into Digby Stuart Square via the side entrance.
- Cross the Digby Stuart Square (shown in photographs 9 and 10).
- This area has a level brick block surface.
- Pass the Hive Café on your left and the Den Diner and Cafe on your right.
- Bear left once past the Hive Café to exit the Digby Stuart Square via the open brick archway, 182cm wide (shown in photographs 11 and 12).
- Once through the archway the surface changes to a level path with a dirt and loose stone surface.
Digby Stewart Square to Grove House
- Turn left after approximately 10m to follow the tarmac path.
- This path has an even and easy gradient (shown in photographs 2 and 3).
- Follow this path round to the right for approximately 115m.
- Turn right along the path towards Grove House, shown in photograph 6.
- This path has an even and level tarmac surface.
- After approximately 50m the path changes to a stone slab surface, at the entrance to the Grove House Gardens.
- After approximately 25m turn left along the side of Grove House.
- At the end of the path enter Grove House car park (shown in photograph 12 and 13) and turn right to walk in front of the building.
- The car park has an even and level tarmac surface.
- Pass in front of the Grove House main entrance, shown in photograph 14.
Grove House to RSU Building, Montefiore Building and Froebel Diner
- Continue past Grove House and exit the car park onto a concrete slab path on right, shown in photographs 2 and 3.
- This path is even and level with a concrete slab surface.
- The path drops down to a steep slope with no handrails leading directly to the Starbucks Café entrance to the Montefiore Building, shown in photograph 4.
- Turn right in front of the entrance and head through covered passage way, shown in photographs 5 and 6, into Froebel College square for access to the RSU Building, Laurence Building, Grove House side entrances and the Union Bar entrance to the Montefiore Building.
- There is a slight ramp on the far side of the covered passageway with a handrail on the left going up.
