Getting To The Hospital (York Hospital)

  • By Road View
    • York Hospital is located North of York City Centre, off Wigginton Road.
      If you are coming from either the North or West of the city the access is best from the A1237.
      If coming from the South or East, then access is easier from the A64.
      There are multiple routes from these roads into the hospital and it is best to use the satnav postcode of YO31 8HE.
    • There is a multi-storey car park and a main Blue Badge only car park near the main hospital entrance.
      The multi-storey car park operates on a barrier/pay on exit system.
      Blue Badge parking is free of charge onsite and in the multi-storey car park.
  • By Bus View
    • The main bus company to stop at the hospital is First Bus.
      The services that stop on Wigginton Road outside the hospital are routes numbers 6, 40 and Hospital Bus.
    • There is an onsite bus stop.
    • The onsite bus stop is located opposite the main entrance, at the far side of the accessible car park.
    • The bus stop has bench seating and limited sheltering from the weather. There is no space for a wheelchair user under the canopy.
    • The route to the main hospital entrance is step-free level and approximately 80 metres. Along the route there are dropped kerbs, dropped kerbs with tactile paving and pedestrian crossings.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest train station is York, approximately 1.3 miles from the Hospital.
      The services which run to York Station are operated by Cross Country, Grand Central, LNER, Transpennine Express and Northern Rail.

Getting To (The Cancer Care Centre)

  • As you face the main hospital entrance, take the pavement to the left until you are facing the multi-storey car park.
    Then turn right.
    Passing the Children's Centre, turn right under the entrance signposted 'The Magnolia Centre' and continue straight ahead where the Cancer Care Centre is located.
  • There is step free access to the Cancer Care Centre.
  • The Cancer Care is approximately 100m from the main hospital entrances.
  • There are not resting areas along the route.
  • Wayfinding signage is provided.
  • Dementia friendly signage is not provided.

Location of Toilet/Changing Facilities (York Hospital)

  • Changing Places facilities are located on the ground floor, to the left of the main hospital entrances, next to the outpatients waiting area.
  • Accessible toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, to the right of the main hospital entrances, opposite the York Wheels office and within Ellerby's Restaurant on the ground floor of the hospital.
  • Female and male standard toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, to the left of the main hospital entrances, next to the outpatients waiting area, within Ellerby's Restaurant on the ground floor, on the third floor outside Ward 35 and outside the maternity entrance on the ground floor.
  • Parent and baby changing facilities are located on the ground floor, to the left of the main hospital entrances, next to the outpatients waiting area, within the Changing Place and also within Ellerby's Restaurant on the ground floor of the hospital.
