Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via steep slopes.
  • Founder's East has three external entrances.
    The most accessible entrance provides step-free access via a steep ramp into the ground floor.
    The other two entrances provide stepped access, one into the ground floor and one into the first floor.
  • The most accessible entrance is signed as Founder's Building. The two stepped entrances are not signed.
  • Access from the South and North Quads into Founder's East includes steps at some entrances and steep ramps at others, as shown in the photographs.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of the building on all floors via the use of a lift.
  • On the ground floor there is a steep slope leading to Crosslands.
  • Access to the staff offices at the north end of Founder's East, on the upper ground floor, is via four steps with handrails on both sides. This can be bypassed via the use of a platform lift.
  • There is a steep slope leading to the link corridor between Founder's East and Founder's West.
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes vary between hard and smooth, and carpeted and patterned. Some floor surfaces have a shiny finish.
  • There are resting/seating areas in the Visitor's Centre with a mixture of seating.
  • Wall mounted wayfinding signage is provided throughout the building.
  • There are manual doors along circulation routes throughout the building.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There is 1 toilet with adaptations.
    • The toilet with adaptations is located on the ground floor of Founder's East, in the standard male toilets.
    • The toilet with adaptations has a left hand transfer space.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located along the main corridors on every floor.
  • Changing Places and Changing Facilities View
    • Parent and baby changing facilities are located inside the toilet with adaptations in the standard male toilets.

Entrance (Accessible Entrance)

  • The reception is located to the right as you enter the Founder's East accessible entrance.
  • The distance from the Founder's East accessible entrance is 1m.

  • The height of the reception desk is 75cm.
  • There is not a lowered section at the desk.
  • The reception has a television.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.

  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.

  • None of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • None of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 82cm.

    • The most accessible route to the toilet has step-free level access and manual doors.
