Introduction

Grove House To Rear Of Lawrence Building

  • From the Grove House main entrance, turn right through the Grove House car park (photograph 1).
  • The car park has an even and level tarmac surface.
  • Follow the tarmac road out of the car park, continuing past the concrete slab path leading to the Montefiore building (photographs 2 to 4).
  • The road is a shared space for pedestrians, vehicles and cyclists.
  • After approximately 50m there is a speed bump in in the road (photograph 5).
  • Continue straight along the shared space road, passing between the Montefiore building on the right, and the Cedar building on the left.
  • After approximately 50m keep right and follow the shared space road (photograph 6).
  • Keeping right, the road passes between the Montefiore and Multi-Use Games Area (photographs 7 and 8).
  • Follow the path ahead, bearing slightly right and then keeping left down the side of the Lawrence Building, past the Blue Badge parking bay (photographs 9 to 11).
  • The path here is obstructed by 2 bollards 55cm high, with a spacing of 146cm (photograph 12).
  • Follow the tarmac path (photographs 13 to 15) round to the right, with Gym Roehampton and the Michaelis building on the left, and the Lawrence Building on the right.
  • Follow the path around to the right (photographs 16 and 17).
  • At the end of the tarmac path opposite the rear entrance to the Lawrence building, turn left to follow the dirt path (photograph 18).
  • There is a rough sloped kerb between the tarmac path and the dirt path (photograph 19).

Rear Of Lawrence Building To Rear Of Digby Stuart College

  • The wooded path is level with a loose stone/dirt surface.
  • There is occasional bench seating on the left hand side of the path (photographs 4 and 6).
  • Some seating was broken at the time of survey (photograph 7).
  • The path continues along the left hand side of a lake (photograph 5).
  • Continue along the path around the lake for approximately 140m.
  • Keep left as the path splits on the far side of the lake (photographs 8 and 9).
  • The path continues on a downward slope with a very easy incline (photograph 10).
  • The path surface here is loose stone/dirt and is uneven (photographs 10 and 11).
  • After approximately 110m there is an upward slope with a slight incline (photograph 12).
  • At the end of the path is a centrally located bollard providing 120cm clearance on each side (photographs 13 and 14).
  • Past the bollard, the path continues into the Digby Stuart campus.

Rear Of Digby Stewart College Entrance To The Richardson Building

  • After entering the rear of the Digby Stewart campus, cross a disused zebra crossing (photograph 1).
  • The crossing is very uneven with rough kerb stones and potholes, and slopes to the left (photographs 2 to 4).
  • The route continues onto a concrete set gravel path (photograph 5).
  • Continue straight for approximately 20m and turn left along the rear of the Library.
  • The route continues between the Mary Seacole Health Innovation Centre and Mandela Building on the left, and the rear of the Library on the right (photograph 6).
  • The route along the rear of the library is a concrete set gravel and is on a slope with a slight incline downhill (photograph 7).
  • After approximately 70m as the route becomes level, keep right and continue along a wall next to the Library (photograph 8).
  • The path then becomes level with a stone block surface (photograph 9).
  • After approximately 25m turn right around the end of the Library, passing paths to Shaw House and the Southlands Campus on your left (photograph 11).
  • After approximately 40m turn right to head up the front of the Library.
  • The path here has a stone block surface and is on a long uphill slope with a slight incline (photographs 12 and 13).
  • Continue straight uphill between the Conference Centre/Elm Grove Halls on the left, and the Library/Sir David Bell Building on the right (photographs 14 to 16).
  • The path here is on a slope with a slight incline.
  • Approximately 80m beyond the Library the path ends at an access road (photograph 17 and 18).
  • Here there is a line of tactile paving and bollards with a spacing of 140cm. (photographs 18 and 19).
  • The Richardson building can be seen diagonally left, on the other side of the access road (photograph 20).

Richardson Building To Digby Stuart Square

  • The route continues to the right in front of the Richardson Building (photographs 1 to 3).
  • After approximately 15m there is a short section of pavement to the left with dropped kerbs (photographs 4 and 5).
  • After a further 5m turn left between the Richardson and Jubilee buildings (photographs 4 to 6).
  • This path here has an uneven tarmac surface, with a slight gradient which levels out after approximately 30m (photographs 6 to 10).
  • Here there is a drain cover in the centre of the path (photograph 9), and a disused step on the right side of the path which may present a trip hazard (photograph 10).
  • After a further 20m, continue left around a Richardson service building onto a paving slab surface which is even (photograph 11).
  • After another 5m there is a ramp that overcomes 3 unmarked medium height steps (photographs 11 to 13).
  • The ramp on the left is on a slope with slight incline, with handrails on both sides (photograph 12).
  • The steps on the right have tactile paving at bottom and top, and are without handrails (photograph 13).
  • To the right of the path in front of the steps are some other disused steps which could present a trip hazard (photograph 15).
  • After the ramp/steps continue for approximately 15m and then turn right after under a covered walkway (photographs 16 to 18).
  • The surface under the walkway changes to block paving (photograph 18).
  • Continue under the walkway past the Howard Building main entrance on the right, and The Den Diner and CafĂ© on the left.
  • The other side of the walkway opens out into Digby Stuart Square (photographs 19 and 20).

Digby Stuart Square To Medical Centre

  • Continue ahead into Digby Stuart Square passing the shop on the right (photographs 1 and 2).
  • After approximately 20m, turn left along the rear of Newman House and the Den Diner (photographs 3 and 4).
  • This area has an even brick block surface and is level.
  • After approximately 25m at the end of the square, turn right in front of Digby Chapel.
  • Here the route progresses up a 5m long slope with a steep incline (photograph 5).
  • Continue towards the exit to Digby Stuart Square via a brick archway 180cm wide (photographs 6 and 7).
  • Beyond the archway the path surface changes to a loose stone path on a slope with a very easy incline (photographs 8 to 10).
  • The path levels out after approximately 20m and the surface changes to concrete set gravel (photograph 10).
  • After a further 10m turn left, passing Garden Court on the left (photographs 11 and 12).
  • Continue diagonally along cobblestones for 15m to the far right corner of the courtyard towards a covered walkway (photograph 13).
  • Continue through the walkway into the Old Court courtyard which has a very uneven, cobblestone surface with a slight downward camber to the left (photographs 15 and 16).
  • Continue across to the far right corner of the Old Court courtyard towards another covered walkway (photograph 17).
  • The surface through the archway is tarmac and is on a reasonably even slope with a very easy incline (photograph 18).
  • The entrance to the Medical Centre can be seen immediately to the right after the exit to the archway (photograph 19).

Medical Centre To Grove House

  • Continue straight along the roadway for approximately 20m, towards a pathway on the right (photographs 1 and 2).
  • The path here is level with a tarmac surface, although uneven in places with some potholes on the left (photographs 3 to 5).
  • After approximately 20m, at the end of path, turn left, and then after a further 5m, turn right (photographs 5 to 7).
  • The path here has an even and level tarmac surface with occasional shallow potholes (photographs 6 to 9).
  • After approximately 40m the route reaches the entrance to Grove House Gardens (photograph 10).
  • The path here changes to a stone slab surface, which may be uneven in places (photographs 11 and 12).
  • After approximately 40m turn left along the side of Grove House to the Grove House car park (photographs 13 to 15).
  • Turn right to continue in front of Grove House (photograph 17).
  • The car park tarmac surface is generally even, but may be uneven in places where tree roots have raised the surface (photograph 16).
  • The entrance to Grove House is approximately 20m on the right (photographs 18 to 19).
