Inside Access (Walkways)

The narrowest walkways are 33cm and 40cm wide. They are all metallic.
There are various trip hazards.
Due to the narrow nature of the walkways, the tour guide advises those with severe medical conditions, recent operations or claustrophobia to not go on the tour.
There are various steps, such as one the one shown in photograph 12. Most are at doorways, however there are some spaced along the walkway.
Doorways and Hatches
- There are various doorways through the submarine, which vary from 38cm to 50cm wide.
- Many of the doors have steps (photograph 2).
- There are 4 hatches that are passed through in the submarine.
- The first hatch is 45cm to 115cm high and has a 32cm high step to it. There is a handle/bar 129cm high that can be used to pull yourself through.
- The second hatch is 54cm to 129cm high and has a 44cm high step to it. There is a handle/bar 135cm high that can be used to pull yourself through.
- The third hatch is 49cm to 139cm high and has a 40cm step to it.
- The fourth hatch is 70cm to 136cm high and has a 56cm high step one side, and a 23cm high step to it on the other side.
Entrance (Exit and Gangplank)
- There is ramped/sloped and stepped access at this entrance.
- There is a ramp with a slight gradient and a width between 75cm and 150cm .
- The ramp has handrails on both sides.
- There are 10 or more steps.
- The steps are clearly marked with handrails on both sides.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently held open.
- The width of the opening is 69cm.
