Overview

  • About View
    • RHS Harlow Carr consists of gardens and woodland trails. There are three play areas within the grounds.
      The site can cater for wedding ceremonies as well as providing classes for schools.
    • Facilities available in the venue include: Bramall Learning Centre and Library, the Gift Shop and Garden Centre, Harrogate Arms (café) and Bettys Tea House.
      There is an exhibition space in the Old Bath House.
      Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms and Shop is located externally to the grounds.

  • Parking and Public Transport View
  • Getting In and Around View
    • There is step-free access via ramp at the most accessible entrance.
    • There is step-free level access throughout the majority of areas, this may include the use of a lift.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: Old Bath House, Harrogate Arms Café, Gift Shop/ Garden Centre and Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms and Shop.
      The paths throughout the grounds have slopes with slight and steep gradients.
    • The following areas have stepped access: Harrogate Arms Café and Gift Shop that can be bypassed by slopes/ramps.
      Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms and the Old Bath House have raised thresholds.
      There are a couple of stepped routes within the grounds, however, these can be bypassed by alternative sloped routes.
    • Access throughout may include uneven surfaces, manual doors, automatic doors, narrow aisles and bollards.
    • The first floor of the Bramall Learning Centre can be accessed via a platform lift and stairs.
  • Getting Help and Assistance View
    • There is seating available.
    • There is no hearing assistance system.
    • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair and an electric wheelchair.

    • Documents are available in the following formats: large print.
    • Large print maps are available on request at reception.
      Sensory packs are available upon request to support visitors who are neurodiverse. The packs contain a range of items (e.g. laminated signs, colour materials, a fidget toy and a magnifying glass).
      Manual wheelchairs and powered mobility scooters are available for hire. Advanced booking is recommended by calling 01423 724 681.
    • There is a water bowl available for assistance dogs.
    • There is not a designated assistance dog spending area.

    • Toilets with adaptations are located to the side of the site entrance, close to the gift shop entrance.

Parking (Car Park 1)

    • The car park is located by the site entrance, with access from Crag Lane.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac and loose chippings.
    • There are 15+ designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
    • The Blue Badge bays have faded markings.
    • The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 220cm (width) x 495cm (depth).
    • There is a marked zone to both sides but not at the rear.
    • The width of the marked zone is 120cm.
    • The nearest designated bay is 60m from the site entrance.
    • The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has a steep ramp or slope, uneven surfaces and bollards.

Parking (Car Park 2)

    • The car park is located on the opposite side of Crag Lane to the site entrance.
    • The car park is open air/surface.
    • The car park surface consists of tarmac, loose chippings and unsurfaced areas.
    • There are 11 designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
    • The Blue Badge bays are signposted but have no markings.
    • The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has a slight ramp or slope, a steep ramp or slope, uneven surfaces and bollards.
    • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving from the designated Blue Badge parking.
    • There is an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing over Crag Lane on route to the site entrance.

    • Parking is free for all users.
    • There are designated parent and child bays within car park 2.
  • Drop-off Point View
    • There is not a designated drop-off point available.
  • Public Car Parks View
    • Car park 3 is accessed via an unsurfaced path and two gates from car park 2.
      There are no designated Blue Badge bays within car park 3.

Entrance (Site Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the site.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 140cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
  • The doors have a medium visual contrast.
  • There is step-free level access as you enter.

Reception

  • The reception is located immediately beyond the entrance.
  • The distance from the site entrance is 2m.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 92cm.
  • There is a lowered section at the desk.
  • The height of the lowered section is 70cm.
  • The reception has glazed screens and patterned/distracting backgrounds which may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is background noise in this area which varies depending on the time of day.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.

Entrance (Access to Grounds)

  • This entrance is located beyond reception.
  • The entrance area is not clearly signed.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double automatic doors at this entrance.
  • The doors open by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 124cm.
  • The doors have a low visual contrast.
  • There is a second single automatic door.
  • The second door opens by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 88cm.
  • The second door has a low visual contrast.
  • There is step-free access via ramp as you enter.
  • The ramp has a steep gradient.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
