About Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council

For anyone who has spent time in Welwyn Garden City, it is a remarkable place. Founder and pioneer, Sir Ebenezer Howard, created a town designed for healthy living – a marriage combining the best of town and country, that even today remains the subject of much international acclaim.

Visitors can enjoy a bustling high street, surrounded by beautifully landscaped planting and gardens – all in just 20 minutes by train from London (Finsbury Park). The town was awarded three special accolades by Anglia in Bloom with the judges describing the views as ‘very special.’

But it is the town’s community spirit of inclusivity that sets it apart, as demonstrated by the community-driven centenary celebrations. Celebrating the town’s rich culture heritage, proud sporting and leisure achievements, its nature and art, the festivities culminated with the unveiling of a Henry Moore sculpture on Parkway and Ebenezer Howard statue along Howardsgate. We hope you come visit us soon!
