Route Overview
- This route runs from Crowngate Shopping Centre - Chapel Walk on High Street to Cathedral Square at the south end of High Street.
- This route is pedestrianised throughout.
- The total length of this route is approximately 0.32km (0.20 miles).
- The average width of the pedestrianised section of this route is approximately 11m.
- This route is divided into 2 sections in this guide:-
- Section 1. Crowngate Shopping Centre - Chapel Walk to Copenhagen Street.
- Section 2. Copenhagen Street to Cathedral Square.
- High Street is part of the main pedestrianised shopping area of the City Centre.
- The pedestrianised parts of this route are closed to vehicles between 10:30 – 16.30 daily.
- Also pedestrianised but not forming part of this guide are Broad Street, Mealcheapen Street, The Shambles and Pump Street.
Getting Here
- Crowngate Shopping Centre - Chapel Walk and Cathedral Square are located on High Street, within the City Centre.
- High Street and Cathedral Square are pedestrianised streets with other streets linking into them, some of which are also pedestrianised.
- There are bus stops in Cathedral Square.
- The nearest railway station is Worcester Foregate Street.
- There are no taxi ranks along this route; the nearest taxi rank is located on The Cross, at the north end of High Street.

- There are 2 public car parks with Blue Badge bays. Parking is not free for Blue Badge holders:-
- 1. Crowngate Car Park is on Moreton Place, off All Saint's Road and Deansway.
- 2. NCP Cathedral Square is in Cathedral Square, off Sidbury (A44).

Section 1 - Crowngate Shopping Centre - Chapel Walk to Copenhagen Street
- The length of this section is approximately 77m.
- This section is a pedestrianised area.
- This section is level for approximately 35m and then has an easy uphill gradient for approximately 12m, followed by an easy downhill gradient for the remaining 30m.
- The surface of the ground is stone block paving and tarmac and is even.
- Between the paved and tarmac areas on the west side of this section are bollards at regular intervals.
- There are bench seats and occasional trees along the paved area of this section.
- Much of the street furniture is painted black with gold banding.
Section 2 - Copenhagen Street to Cathedral Square
- The length of this section is approximately 145m.
- This section is pedestrianised throughout and is level.
- The paving is block paving and tarmac and is even.
- Cafés and restaurants in this section have outside seating out on the paved areas as part of a street café culture.
- The area towards Cathedral Square has benches and black refuse bins.
- Much of the street furniture is painted black with gold banding.
- There are bollards between High Street and Cathedral Square.
- The minimum width between the bollards is 146cm.
- There are a series of trees along the left side of the route
- There are bicycle stands towards the southern end of this section, on Fish Street, and next to the bench seating in front of Cathedral Square.
Toilet Facilities
- Accessible and standard public toilets can be found in Crowngate Shopping Centre - Friary Walk.
- Many cafés and shops also have toilets, but they may not be accessible.
